How Do You Plan Landscape Lighting?

design@adsketch.com · January 25, 2022 ·

Want to reduce the potential headaches that can come with updating landscape lighting in Boca Raton? Of course, you do. That is why we want to provide you with a few tips and tricks to make sure you have a solid plan ready for your upgrade. By having a plan in place and working with a skilled landscape architect, you are able to get your project done the right way, the first time, and without nearly as much stress.

Start Thinking About:

  • What Exterior Areas or Objects You Want to Light
  • The Appropriate Lighting Techniques to Give You the Look You’re After
  • The Fixtures & Accessories That Give You the Desired Effect You Want
  • The Power Supply Needed to Illuminate Your Yard
  • The Appropriate Bulbs for the Lights You Choose

Need a little help learning about the different landscape lighting techniques and how they work in your yard? Take a look below for a quick run-through of the most popular methods used in landscaping.

  • Accent or Spot Lighting – A controlled, intense beam that highlights focal points.
  • Grazing – A light that is positioned close to an interesting surface to bring out its unique texture.
  • Shadowing – Lighting an object from below and the front to project intriguing shadows.
  • Silhouetting – Concealing lights below and behind an object to create an eye-catching silhouette.
  • Pool & Fountain Lighting – Underwater lights that create dramatic effects in pools and at fountains.
  • Downlighting or Area Lighting – Mounted lights that cast broad illumination over wide areas.
  • Cross Lighting – Illuminating an object from two or more sides to create a striking three-dimensional form.
  • Uplighting – Aiming your lights upwards to create a highly dramatic effect.
  • Spread or Diffused Lighting – Circular patterns of light that cover a wide area with low-level illumination.
  • Moonlighting – Similar to downlighting but using soft light sources to create the lovely effect of moonlight filtering through branches.
